Happy New Year: Stay healthy!

[ 2 ] December 31, 2013 |

What do I do for Holidays? In short, I do the same things that I normally do: Eat right and exercise.

Eat right

Eating right year round is critical. We all tend to indulge when Holidays: More sweets, more cakes, more meat and drinks. But if all the year you have been working on your good habits by reading labels, avoiding toxic chemicals associated with sodas, candies and fast food, an extra piece of good German chocolate or homemade cake will not do any harm. In general, I prefer whole milk, Mexican style cheese, ground coffee, real bred from Costco, fruits, nuts, vegetables, vegetable soup (with or without meat) and pickles without Yellow 5 and/or Yellow 6.

REMEMBER: The fewer ingredients listed on a packed food the less harmful it tends to be.

Exercise

Weight lifting, riding bike and hiking in mountains are my lovely habits for over 35 years. These habits, especially weight lifting, are like a kind of addiction.

If for a reason I do not do lifting at least 225 pounds for a few days I feel like something is missing and feel less strong and less confident.  This “addiction” helps me to stay healthy.

Use garlic when attacked by flu

Garlic is a very powerful medicine food. I eat garlic all the time. I say, it’s better to smell garlic than smell cancer. Trace amounts of organic compounds containing selenium were identified in garlic.

Certain selenium compounds are proven as powerful anti-cancer medicines. Recent research suggests that proper selenium intake is correlated with a reduced risk of both breast cancer and prostate cancer. Unfortunately, eating garlic sometimes is not enough to prevent catching flu. Although I do not remember when last time I had flu, these New Year days I got a very bad flu. To alleviate the annoying symptoms I make garlic water by cutting a claw of garlic and letting it stay in an ounce of warm water, then pour approximately 1/3 of a teaspoon of the garlic water in my every nostril. This normally works well for me and my family.

Select sweets carefully

I do buy pastries in a local bakery sorting carefully out anything suspiciously bright – I do not buy “dye diet” things. When it comes to sweet desserts I like meringue cakes that my wife bakes. There are a couple of technical secrets how to make it fluffy but after some practicing anyone can bake this nutritiously dense dessert. Indeed, what is better for quick energy and muscles if not an abundance of protein and sugar topped with vitamin rich walnuts and fruits? Look at this marvelous delicacy!

Also it is hard to resist temptation of trying absolutely delicious Tiramisu Torte ice-cream cake imported from Italy. No matter it is high in fatty heavy cream – I need it for lifting heavy weights!

Raw bio-active honey is another preferred sweet product, be it polyfloral or buckwheat honey.

  1. You probably first learned about selenium in high school chemistry class, but did you know that it is just about the cheapest “anti-cancer” pill you can buy? Selenium was initially used in conventional medicine as a treatment for dandruff, but our comprehension of the mineral has dramatically increased over the past half century years. It is an essential component of a powerful antioxidant (glutathione peroxidase) manufactured by the body which defends specifically against peroxides, a type of free radical that attacks fats. Like other antioxidants, glutathione peroxidase also reduces the risk of developing cancer and heart diseases and stimulates the immune system’s response to infections.

    • DyeDiet DyeDiet says:

Best way to get dietary selenium is from foods, not from supplements. Not any kind of “selenium” is equally bio-available to become useful for your body. Supplements often cannot provide complex selenium source your body can use effectively, so often it just goes through.
