Candy is just a flavored sugar by definition. But should the flavor and color always come with potentially health damaging chemicals like azo-compounds? No, no, no. Nevertheless, overwhelming majority of candies in the United States is of exactly such a miserable kind: sugar artificially flavored and artificially colored with strange chemicals that are incompatible with the human cell biology. The good news is that there are a few exceptions that will make you and your child happy. I call them nutritious candies.
Recently I have gladly recommended Sunkist Fruit Gems nutritious candy. Today I would like you to take a look at Jelly Belly/Sunkist Orange Slices candy. This is one of those very rare cases when nice pictures of beautiful fruits on the package do indeed reflect the contents!
Yes, yes, yes: DyeDiet RECOMMENDED!
There are NO food additives to avoid in Jelly Belly/Sunkist Orange Slices candy. It is naturally flavored and naturally colored:
- Flavor: orange oil is an essential oil naturally occurring in the skin of orange fruits
- Color: Carrot concentrate (carrot juice concentrate)
- Acerola puree is a natural source of Vitamin C. The vitamin C produced by the fruit is better absorbed by human body than synthetic ascorbic acid.
I have tried the candy and, let me tell you, it tastes a lot like an orange! By choosing this candy you will NOT expose your loved ones to the chemical risks common for many other candies: DDFI = 0/17 = 0! Also, moderately good nutritional value of DDNF = 17/11 = 1.5 is what both you and your child are going to benefit from. Enjoy nutritious Jelly Belly/Sunkist Orange Slices candy but please keep in mind that every serving of 13 pieces (a half of 3.1 OZ bag) supplies 6 teaspoons of sugar.
Bottom line. Don’t get me wrong: Candies are made for having sweet fun, not for nourishment. But in the same time there is NO reason for a candy to contain suspicious chemical food additives. Also, please be extremely careful about other Sunkist products. So treat your sweet children to this sweet Jelly Belly/Sunkist Orange Slices candy without fear! The candy is certainly safe in moderation. Educate your children; teach them to eat food, not food additives! God bless you.
