Lofthouse Patriotic Cookies: The domestic food terrorism

June 27, 2012 |

Do you know what irritates me the most every time I visit the local Walmart grocery? It’s the exposition of Lofthouse Cookies stacked on the shelves right by the entrance so that no one could miss them. Those miserable talentless junk-food cookies change their names and artificial colors according to the seasons and holidays but sadly this is all that changes. Their content always stays the same: A hazardous, nasty chemical waste! Sadly, this time of the year the waste comes in patriotic decoration and, unfortunately, in the colors of the American flag.

DyeDiet Doesn’t Buy It!

Lofthouse Patriotic Cookies: Risk, Nutrition and Dye ContentLofthouse Patriotic Cookies: Risk, Nutrition and Dye Content

What do you expect from a product when its DyeDiet risk and nutrition diagram is red more than in half? You are right! Don’t use your stomach as a garbage container! Because, if you do, you will take unacceptable chemical risk  of DDFI = 117/40 ~ 2.9 and laughable nutritional value  of DDNF = 40/153 ~ 0.25, that is close to zero.

What is patriotic? Is it when one carries the flag all the time or maybe when the one is loyal to the government day and night no matter what? I don’t think so. To be a patriot means to pay respect to the US Constitution and to stand for personal Liberty. Then both free market and freedom will follow and fill the country’s life with real prosperity, and not with corporatism, monopoly dictate and tyranny. What can be more disgraceful, more unpatriotic and more betrayal than marketing worst possible food garbage under the American Flag? Who could dare doing that? Here they are, Ralcorp Frozen Bakery Prod., 215 North 700 West #A-10, Ogden UT, 84404; tel. 1(888) 692-3451, the manufacturer of this crap:  Lofthouse  Delicious Cookies.

Frozen bakery and, perhaps, frozen conscience and frozen souls…

The main ingredients are presented by 4 nutrients 2 of which are questionable:

The rest 36 ingredients (!) are mostly artificial preservatives, stabilizers, emulsifiers  colorants and other unwelcome chemicals. Among them 15 are biologically hostile food additives (red segments in the DyeDiet diagram), 9 benign food additives (yellow segments) and 9 formal nutrients that consist of starches, waxes and oils (green segments).

With every “patriotic” cookie you will introduce 12 mg of an azo dye Red 40 into your blood. This chemical is feared to trigger ADHD and allergic reactions in children and adults (read PDF file, p. 29 of Food Dyes: A Rainbow of Risks  and Diet, ADHD and Behavior).

Domestic food terrorism. If the Lofthouse Patriotic Cookies are designed to bring some health damage to the American people, including children (read PDF file Food marketing to children) when they celebrate the 4th July, maybe the manufacturer profiting out of this product is associated with Al-Qaeda?

A better choice. Luckily, instead of the Lofthouse’s nonsense, you can pick up Oatmeal Raisin Cookies of Walmart Bakery right on the same aisle and for the same money!

While it’s far from what you can buy at the Whole Foods Market for a triple price, still, at least there are no ugly chemicals and no false patriotic decorations screaming on the label. You will just get a descent quality for a descent price. I have tried and I liked these Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. You have a wonderful 4th July!

Every time I had a panic attack or my legs would start twitching before bed it was always the same culprit.Lofthouse cookies.I work for long hours and don’t normally eat many meals or even decent food, but recent health scares have prompted me to pay more attention to what I put in my body and every time I felt “close to death” I could remember the day before the “attack” eating this garbage because a fellow employee would buy these for the office.I understand in this economy one has to do everything they can to save a buck, but are health problems and ADHD really worth the savings?
