Barq’s Fake Root Beer

June 2, 2012 |

What you read on the label: “Barq’s Olde Tyme Root Beer. It’s good since 1898!” is not what you get in reality. The drink has nothing to do with the root of sassafras which in old times used to be the original flavor of root beer. So what you get is another version of Coca-Cola-like sugary drink artificially flavored with something that remotely reminds you the original root beer flavor. Take a look into the details.

Barq's Root Beer Risk and NutritionBarq’s Root Beer: Risk and Nutrition

With this fake root beer you will take substantial chemical risk  of DDFI = 19/11 ~ 1.7 and you will get ridiculously low nutritional gain of DDNF = 11/29 ~ 0.4. I hope you understand why it doesn’t worth paying even $1.00 for the huge 2 L bottle of this liquid. Over the time, it will take from you even MORE than what you already paid so you will lose. In other words, if you drink it on a regular basis, you will pay your money to cause some damage to your health and later you will have to pay your medical bills too.

From the comparison chart below you see that Barq’s Root beer repeats main ingredients of Coca Cola Classic and differs with chemical flavor and added acacia (likely gum acacia):

Barq's Root Beer and Coca-Cola ComparisonInstead of phosphoric acid of Coca-Cola you will consume two more preservatives, citric acid, which is harmless and sodium benzoate, which is capable of producing highly toxic benzene. Read PDF file: The effect of some colours and sodium benzoate on children’s behaviour. Caramel color has recently attracted major media attention due to carcinogenic impurities.

Bottom line. By drinking filtered water like the one you can buy at your local Walmart for mere $1.11 per 3 gallons you will put yourself and your family outside of the huge segment of the American population doomed to obesity and debilitating diabetes. Hydrate yourself right!

Ummm….you might want to start again and actually spell the name of the product correctly. It’s BARQ’S. Not Barg’s. That’s a Q not a G. I thought everyone and their dog knew this. Remember the slogan, “Barq’s has bite”???
